Don't corner something that you know is meaner than you...…...Life is simpler when you plow around the stump...…….You cannot unsay a cruel word...…...Always drink upstream from the herd...…...Don't interfere with something that ain't bothering you none......

These days people will back track or flip-flop, but nobody crawfishes any more.

Here us an old idiom- "tied around your little finger"

Everybody knows what tied around your little finger means, but nobody seems to know how they got there. It's a reference to falconry. When you park your hawk you tie a hitch from its legging to your finger in order to control the bird.

He would argue with a signpost.
He would climb a tree to tell a lie rather than stand on the ground and tell the truth.
He won't last til the water gets hot.
So mad he couldn't hit the ground in three tries with his hat.
Not worth the powder and lead it would take to blow his head off.
Plain as a mud fence.
If the dog hadn't stopped to ****, he wiuld have caught the rabbit.

Been a long time since I heard someone use crawfish.
Also guess being wrapped around someone's finger might be related to falconry.

Scarce as hens teeth.

A co worker from Poland in his youth , possibly referring to Polish Peoples Republic /Polish United Workers era (read becoming Socialistic) told of rocks being used to idle equipment...And the common (?) phrase of "You hold the wall ,I'll go get the check". Meaning a picture of a worker leaning/relaxing against a wall and being payed for it.

"If you could buy him for what he's worth, and sell him for what he thinks he's worth, you would be a rich man." (I'm sure we all know a few people to whom this would apply.)
