RIP to those lost and speedy recovery for those injured, nightmare scenario that could happen to anyone any time, I imagine it would be particularly bad in areas whos drivers are not used to driving on frosted roads like in TX.
Here in MI we are supposedly used to it but you still see idiots driving around at high speeds on icy roads, sometimes just the opposite with people creeping along ridiculously slow.
Black ice is the worse, you cannot see it and have no idea of the danger you are in until it comes time to stop, applying brakes is useless and even counter productive, very little control of steering, you don't lose speed laying off the accelerator you actually gain speed, and the only thing you can do really is lightly pump your brakes and pray you lose momentum before you plow into something.

[h=2]Devastating 100-car pile-up on Texas freeway kills five and traps dozens of injured drivers as overnight sleet turns road into 'sheet of ice' - with crash site running 1.5 MILES long[/h]
  • Five people are dead and many more have been injured in the crash on Interstate 35 in Fort Worth, Texas
  • It's unclear what time the crash happened but it was before the sun rose and after a night of sleet and snow
  • Firefighters are going car to car, looking for people who urgently need medical help along the crash site
  • They are having trouble accessing the vehicles because the freeway is still so icy
  • Photos and videos from the scene show trucks plowed into car ports and vehicles entirely smashed
  • Another three people have died in different crashes across the state that were also caused by the storm

Another wreck similar to TX happened in TN between Cleveland and Athens, TN on I-75...Fog 100 vehicles and several deaths. Fog due to Bowaters Paper company along the Hiwassee River.. So sad, be careful and head to the shoulder and get out and run off the road.

And if you are on the shoulder because of fog, turn your lights off. Some impatient drivers think they know where the road is because they can see tail lights. :tard:
