I was at an estate sale and I purchased these three Excalibar’s I was wondering if they are worth getting repaired or selling them as they are I would like to keep two of them and have them tested thoroughly through if possible two of them work one I cannot test it looks like they cut the coil off to put another one on and never finished the
Working with just simple air testing

The ones with the sword on the sides are the original excals, they are good detectors, the only draw back to them are there are no parts available for them when they break down. The other is the 1000. It needs new coil at minimum, about $275 parts labor, most likely the headphone insulation will start pealing some since the coil cable did.

Is there a certain place to send them to or just send them to minelab and is there a way to take the coil off the one original Excel to put on the other one to test it

I would sell the excal swords and put the money into the excal 1000. Just my opinion. Did they come with battery pods as the sword pods sell for pretty good money. The coils are interchangeable but require De-soldering old one and re-soldering the new one on. Not for the inexperienced to attempt.

If you're not going to dive with it, you can cut and splice in a waterproof connector. That way you can swap coils too. Coils from a Sovereign will work on the Excalibur blue tube and later. You just have to adapt the connection. I agree with Todd, if the Sword model works (or not!), sell it and use the money toward fixing the later models. I'd do the pin point mod, upgrade the headphones, and get a bigger coil if it were me......and I did! :icon_thumright:

What was it designed for? Unless it was designed for Minelab Sovereign or Excal it will not work on excal.

If it doesn't say what detector it is for I would email or call Coiltek give them the serial number and see if they can tell you. It has the right connector for a Sovereign but other detectors use same connector, if it is put on the wrong detector you can burn up the detector or coil or both.

I am just about done building two excals from scraps. They both will have interchangeable coils, lipo batteries, disc button switch, and cf plugger shafts. I don’t think I would get my money back if i were to sell them. Lot of work too.
