Copper Tri Fecta and it's a goody

Got out Sunday with xGregx and made our way across not 1, but 2 county lines and we made certain to stay to the East so as not to infringe on the Kingdom of Vibes

Our goal for the day was to check out a couple of parks that I had recalled from my younger years. The first one was infested with can slaw and mosquitos. So many mosquitos in fact that we ended up smacking ourselves more so than swinging the detector. (ok a bit of exageration) I only pulled 1 coin out of this park that was established in 1920, and it ended up being a memorial penny. (gotta make the hunt count)

Onto the second park for the day.
This park was established in the mid 1800's and is probably 150 yards square. Directly across the street sits a 2 story school house with a date marker saying erected in 1885. I seen a guy walking towards the school house and asked if he was the owner and he replied no, but that the owner was probably awake and would most likely let us detect the property.

More on that part of the story later.

So anyways, we go on detecting this little park and I get a couple pieces of clad coins and then pop out a 1919 Wheatie (yeah I scalped it). That there's a good sign as there should be silver hiding somwhere nearby. Greg was hitting the field area and I was making my way across the park towards some trees and met up with him in that area. Started making our way around when I got a quarter VDI that was jumping around and finally made the decision to dig. Got me a nice plug opened up and stuck my Propointer in and nothing. Swung the coil over the opened hole and again nothing. Ran my pinpointer across my ground cloth and Wham-o, it’s out of the hole. Gave the dirt a little flip with the pinpointer and the bust of a women was showing on the coin. Took me a little bit to realize just what I had. In fact, I had to flip the coin over to see what I had. Once I seen the One Cent on the back I gave greg a yell and told him what I had just unearthed. Should have seen the look on his face, it was a Kodak moment for sure. Closed up the hole and not more than 6 feet away I get another good signal and pop out the 1902 Indian Head Cent.

    The School House
I was making my way back to the truck when the guy I had spoken to earlier struck up a conversation and said that he had gotten us permission to hunt the property of the school house, and just at that moment the lady who lives there drove up, so we made our introductions and the permission was granted to have at it. We didn’t have much time to spend there and did do a little recon on the property. A lot of trash everywhere, but I guess that’s expected due to 150 years. We will go back and spend some time there in the next couple of weeks, as the home owner said to come back when ever. (Cha-Ching)

Well, 3:00 came and we had been at it since 8:00 that morning and decided to call it a day. We seen the gentleman who acquired us the permission to hunt the school house and went over to thank him. He mentioned that we can hunt his yard, as it used to be a church that had burned down and his house was built on the original foundation.
Sorry for all the rambling, but it was one of the best days of detecting that I have ever had and just had to share it with you all.

Happy hunting and thanks for taking the time to read and look.

Nah, we drove across the Elkhart County Line twice though

Actually, we ended up somewhere in Noble County out in the sticks. I'd have to look at my GPS to findout just exactly where we were close to.

Hey DJH those are great finds and way to go on the Large Cent. I love finding those. It is great that you are getting permission on a few properties too. Some people are into it and some are not. Great finds buddy. I am awaiting for a day or two of freedom to get out and dig a loaded pit we found. Cant wait to get back out. jgas

    Thanks Jgas,

I was surprised at the condition of the LC and only did a field cleaning on it. Nothing more than pure H20 and a soft toof brush

Can't wait to see what comes out of your trashy pits
