Umbrella Ink, Marbles, Buttons etc.
Don and I got out and dug two pits. These are some pics of the digs. As usual, mostly broken but a few keepers. I also posted this on Today's Finds. Enjoy and be safe out there my fellow Hoosiers!! jgas

Great finds Jgas.
I was gonna comment on the Kidney Stones in your hand, then I read the Todays Finds Post
The ink is very cool and to bad on the broken pieces, as some of them would have been some real keepers.
How long would you say it takes you to dig a pit?
Be safe, both in the pit and on the street

Hey DJH, it takes around 3 to 4 hours to do a good pit. It all depends on how much stuff is down below. The more the better of course, but those take a bit longer as you slow down and rake it all in Check ya soon. Jgas

Jgas , I'm amazed how you find those pits. Such cool stuff. Have you ever heard of the town of Somerset? You would have fun there. Was there last fall when the water went down, and you could see where each privy used to sit. Kevin

Hey Kevin, never head of Somerset. I will look into it. What water are you talking about? Was there an area that was flooded? Its really quite easy to find the pits if you have the tools and the patience jgas

Jgas , You can find some maps and pictures on line. I think it's in wabash co. The town was razed in 1965 and lies under the missisinawa resivour. A coworker took me there last October. The water level gets lowered every fall and this town comes out of the water. Sidewalks, foundations, tree stumps. It's very cool to see. Found some old coins, tokens, clay marbles ,buttons , even a trade bead. I plan on going back in October and your welcome to come along. Kevin
