I've been looking for a 1780's "ghost town" and these are the only clues I've found thus far. I'm not a nail expert, so I thought I would see if the folks here would care to opine as to the age and or usage of these. Some have a chisel point like a RR spike.

Kevin, These look just like RR spikes. I have seen spikes come out of the ground that look just like these. The longer ones are crossing spikes maybe because crossing spikes are a lot longer then other ones. There are some crossing spikes that have a head the shape of a sand dollar with the spike being twisted. These are screw in instead of using a sledge hammer. This is my guess and hope it helps.
