My "th" partner, flynndfx40, and I turkey hunted this morning and then took our detectors to a freshly plowed field that has been good to us over the last 2 years. 5 minutes after starting he comes over to show me a shotgun hull in a dirt clod. This hull turns out to be a "V" nickel and will be his story later. About 30 minutes later I got a solid signal on my XLT at 2 1/2 inches. At first it looked like a flat button, but then I saw it was concave. I cleaned a little of the dirt from it and thought I had an eagle button but then I saw it was a William Harrison 1840 campaign button. I stopped cleaning. When I got home I did some more cleaning with a soft toothbrush and then aluminum jelly to bring out the gilt. Cliff has found 2 of these in this same field the last 2 years. We now call it the "Harrison" field. A good day for the both of us.
