Searched a 200 year old yard in Bel Air Md. Came up with a couple of earlie 40's pennies, 2 copper oil tags - pen amo, amoco light, 200 year old blacksmith ax head, a tin disc about the size of a silver dollar with a steeple chase sean stamped into it, and a gold ring with a 2ct. ruby. Also looked in my back yard and found 7 tokens stamped L.R. WHITAKER, A token stamped W.P.Co. a token in poor condition marked B&S over 100, a 1917 penny, and a token from sears stamped CELEBRATING SEARS NEW CENTURY 100 1888 to 1988 on the back is LIBERTY and the head of the statue of liberty. Saw the post about gold in Md. The location is no secret. Gold has been found in the Potomac from Cabin John bridge up to Great Falls. There were also some gold mines in Harford Co. near Havre de Grace and Prospect. I am checking them out now. Any one have any good leads? I use a XLT & surfmaster PI.

So far this Maryland Militia Box Plate is the best that I have found... Found this in 2010 during first week with White's MXT 300 on an old farm in Frederick County.

I am looking forward to adding to this thread, later on this June. My in-laws have big property, 32 acres, and through lots of research, appears to be part of a land payment for service in the Rev. War...Most of it is a field, and don't know what to expect. Maybe the hunt of a lifetime, or a silent stroll for hours on end. Imagine my excitement to hit the road, get out of the Florida heat, and find goodies older than 1925!

I've been hunting for 3 weeks and just scored my first quarter. I'm headed to a farm on the Eastern Shore tomorrow. Should be good hunting, 600 acres that has never seen a detector.

My best finds in MD
A 1775 2 reals
And a silver shoe buckle, that's from the 1780s made in Philadelphia, and the Philadelphia museum of Art has a matching pair from the same silversmith on display.
