Old counterfeit nickel UPDATE
These are a couple of items dug last year. Better pics. I felt that the scans didn't do them justice.
IH was found at the "invisible schoolhouse" site, v-nickel at an old circus site.
UPDATE: Forum member Buckleboy suggested that this nickel was perhaps 1 piece of a 2-part mold used to make counterfeit nickels. Sounds good to me.

Wow. Nice nickle, I have never seen a counterfeit coin that was reversed and inpressed. It's almost like a stamping die for the reverse of the coin. Nice find.
Maybe it's a novelty token from the circus.

My best guess is that a blank was placed on top of a real nickel, then hit with a hammer.

Is the "V" lead? Kinda' like pouring the right amount on top of a coin.

Re: Old counterfeit nickel, 1864 Indian
looks like someone made a reverse mold well made tho i doubt that a circus would give away counterfeit tokens Id think it was against the law to create a coin that would so easily tricka vendor have you done any research on the coin theres gotta be some others out there who ever made it shoulda counterfeited something more worthwhile

Hey Duane, now that looks like the pointed bust with L 1864. Looks like I can see the L in the photo even. Check it out. If so then thats a kinda big money find. If folks can see the L they will pay good money. I got, I think $240 for the one I found. Congrats to ya. I like the counterfeit coin too that is neat.
Ya never know until ya go.
