Bottles and bullets - Mar. 7th
Hi all: I hope you all got outside this weekend, detecting or not. I did a short woods hunt today and came home with two bottles, a slug and several shell casings, a '44 wheatie and a Rosie.
The larger bottle is an Avon bottle. Anyone know what the smaller bottle could be? It does not have threads. Also, can someone tell me about this bullet? It looks like a CW bullet and it has been fired.
Today I saw a Robin, Red-winged Blackbird, and Killdeer. The Sandhill Cranes are also back. Spring is on its way!

Good to see you got out. There is a common variety of civil war bullet known as a 3 ringer. Looks like you found one.

Nice finds Anne. The bottle on the left looks like it was square and was deformed from a fire. It's still a cool bottle.Glad you got out.

MW - You know, I wondered about that bottle being in a fire. It has a weird irregular shape to it and it is, unfortunately, broken.

Thanks MS. So why would a fired CW bullet be at a place that has CW reenacting? Isn't the whole point of reenacting not to be firing live rounds?

The bullet is a repro of a civil war bullet but looks to be fired. It's possbile they had an area for a demonstration and shot targets or something. I've seen quite a few repros like that. You can tell it's a repro by the rings and nose. The little bottle does look like it was in a fire. I've found those before myself. I believe they were ink bottle but am not 100% sure on that.

Sure looks like a CW 3 ringer (minie Ball) to me. Did ya find it at the secret place?

Yes, hubbie suggested the target practice idea later. It hadn't occurred to me at the time.

Glad you could get out Anne. That deformed bottle sure looks familiar; not sure if it melted that way, or if that's how it came from the mold. HH, ffd
