2 shields and a V
A couple of firsts for me. Had never dug a shield nickel or a V nickel before. I think maybe someone with a minelab had been in this yard and dug all the high tones. Hard to believe I never pulled a wheat or merc out of this yard, but 3 old nickels. The 1896 V was the first signal I dug, after swinging for 30 seconds maybe, the 1868 shield and the 1882 shield were all in a 12 foot radius and all between 4 and 5 inches. Something peculiar about the date on the 1882, and thought I had an overdate at first, but I'm now pretty sure it is whats reffered to as a 'filled 2'. The silver quarter and and sterling charm were way in the back of the property. The silver charm also has a neat back mark that I'm not sure about, but almost looks like a race car. I opted to try a cleaning method on 2 of the nickels, just because they are only for my collection. I like the way they turned out, I could get all the purple of the shield but I'm gonna leave it. The button was a tailor here in town in the 1870's. Anyway, thanks for looking all, HH, Griff

Congrats J on those firsts! The silver charm looks like an oldie, and nice old coins!
Found my first V nickel in Jackson 30+ years ago, when I owned a White's coinmaster.
Actually I eyeballed it in a flower bed down on S. Jackson st. ffd

Wow, excellent hunt, Josh! Way to dig those low tones. That 1882 nickel is a beauty. I'd be happy with any of those nickels. The St. Christopher charm is cool, too.

Griff, you got one heck of a spot there. Looks like you did a good job searching it too. The coins are great, but the charm, I really like.

Nicely Done!
I just love to find old nickels! I know you dig some crappe in the search, but finding Vs and Buffs that everyone else just walked on by is pretty cool. No sheild nickels up this way so far, but.....
Congrats on some great finds!
Good Luck,
Mark
