Exploring with the Explorer - 07/13
I was thirsty for some silver today so I called Koleen for a hunt but she was out ot town. (Now that I've hunted with a partner, I kind of miss it when she's absent. ) Thus, on my lonesome I headed out to our favorite site. I hunted about 2.5 hours and was happy to find a '26 Merc and five wheats: two '46's, '49D, '44, and a '49. Some of the wheats were pretty deep. It was humid, the weeds were thick in places, the poison ivy fluorishing, and the mosquitoes annoying. I'm not a big fan of bug dope so part of the time I put on a light jacket....now I was toasty!! So, only one silver coin but it felt like ten for all the effort it took to find it. Also found a threaded doodad. I saw three young turkeys and found a very nice turkey tail feather. Still learning the new machine.
HH and thanks for looking,
Michiganne

Nice finds, were they in a area that you feel you had covered well with your old detector?

The merc definitely was in an area we had covered but maybe it was edge on so we missed it. This is not your typical rectangular yard we are hunting so gridding is difficult. I have taken the Explorer back to a yard I've hunted a lot and only picked up a few wheats. I think re-hunting the yards will give me a better idea of what I've been missing.

Turkey feather was an eyeball find at 50 yards.

Speaking of turkeys, I can't believe all that I'm seeing this year. Dodging the chicks in the road, turkey/chicks in the yard, etc....got so hungry for turkey, yesterday we all went to Cornwell's Turkeyville in Marshall, had a thanksgiving dinner in July, lol!
