Well...no seated for me. Did find one oldie at least.

Plus a neat looking token thingy. Thought it was a large cent at first. My one oldie is the 1900 Indian head. I like the sterling locket back and little gold plated football. I went door knocking and was turned down twice. One place, I practically talked the owners into NOT letting me detect the place. What a dork. Sometimes I over do it on the humble pie.
I love this time of year for detecting. We still need more rain though, ground is real dry. Anyone nab a seated today?

Nice going on the IH, Jim, and other goodies. Any info on the Elliott token? Neat football, too.

You did better than me as I got no hunting in this weekend.

I got these two replies from Les the token guy.....

It is absolutely a trade token and I would assume it was used for a business. The obverse ornament I mentioned before can be found on many other trade tokens.

Here is a more typical example:

    http://tokencatalog.com/token_record...ecord_offset=8

Yours is a bit unusual in that there is nothing in the center on the obverse. The 5 on the reverse is also of a style that I haven't seen all that often. That's one of the reasons I figured it was an earlier type.

The only listing I could find for a Paul Elliott is a pool hall in Jackson in the 1917-19 gazetteers. Unfortunately, I think that is far too late for a token of this style. I believe your token should be a pre-1900 issue. I can't recall ever seeing a token with that style obverse ornament attributed any later than 1905.

I also checked the 1889-95-97 & 1901 gazetteers under Hanover but found no one by that name in any business. Too bad. It's a nice looking token.

Great score on the Indian Jim I didn't get a seated over the weekend, I haven't found one this year so far myself.

Glad you got an old one Jim, no seateds for me, not even close. I was up at the crack of dawn and hit 3 pounded spots:
Vandercook - nothing - wow that place is trashy!
Sharp - nothing - did have a guy approach me (he was at the harvest festival) and told of digging lots of goodies there in the past. I urged him to join Tnet.
Loomis - nothing but the usual wheaties, I haven't bothered checking dates.
Might knock on a couple doors my day off Monday, although I have so much to get done before winter, like cleaning the chicken coop, nasty!!!

Nice find's I didn't find a seated this weekend but Thursday I went back to the sidewalk tearout where I found all those coins a month ago and found a 1852 seated dime. I hope more coins pop up when they level it off to put the new sidewalk in, which should be this week.

    Good luck hunting.

Cool digs! You need to do a search to see if that name brings up any busineses in that area in the early 1900's. Cool find!
