Welcome back MI Tnetters!
I don't usually drive too far to hunt (unless I'm hooking up with other Tnetters :)) but I've been thinking of making a road trip to Grand Rapids and with the long holiday weekend it finally happened. I started at my aunt's house on the NE side of G.R. This was the house my mom lived in for part of her childhood and it was built right after WWII, so I wasn't expecting anything old. Seeing the house and yard again brought back a flood of memories as I used to visit my grandparents here a lot. My grandpa was a WWII vet and he built a fallout shelter into the hillside by the house. It has cinder block walls with air vents and electric lights. He used to store apples in it and after raking the mountains of leaves in his yard, we would visit the fallout shelter to pick out an apple to eat on the way home. One of my older siblings would inevitably run up to the garage and turns the lights off on the last ones inside. :nono: Hunting the yard I found 7 wheats, mostly from the 40-50's and a '44 Mercury dime. I'd like to go back and re-grid as it is a big yard. My parents had their wedding reception in the back yard here in 1956 and there should be more goodies hiding. There is also a steep sledding hill (no longer used) on the back hill that I only hunted at the top.
From there, I hunted my brother and sister-in-law's 1920's house, also on the NE side of town. The outlawn there had a ton of signals and I was thinking maybe a smaller coil would do better than my standard one. Clad finds were 3 quarters, 5 dimes, and 23 pennies. One '37 wheatie. Amidst all the signals in the outlawn I popped out an undated Standing Liberty quarter, which was nice. :) Relics were a deep Mason jar lid, a metal jack, and a Lady Sunbeam label. I ran out of daylight and would like to cover the yard better. I may have to talk to Santa about a smaller coil......

HH and thanks for looking,
Michiganne

Greetings, Michiganne Some interesting finds there. I wish you lots of luck on getting back there. Down near,
and at the bottom of that sledding hill should be a good place because of all the tumbles they take. Going back
to a place where you visited as a child can be quite an enjoyable experience.
Thanks for sharing your fun and finds.
I hope you had a great Thanksgiving.
Ray

Excellent post Anne...and some sweet finds. :headbang:

The SLQ is my favorite coin :hello2:

Get you a small coil...possibly even switch to semi auto sensitivity if you already haven't... and slow waaaaayyyy down at that spot and you'll pop out a few more goodies there.

Great finds Anne; I'm kinda partial to Merc's myself, but the SLQ is a great find! Sooner or later you are going to find a rare date!
