    ANyone in the U.P.?

Wondering if anyone lives and detects the U.P.? My friend has a place on Lake Gogebic and we hunted around up there a bit, but had no luck really. Thinking of taking another road trip to try and find some fur trade items. Anyone ever come across stuff like that?

I live in the south central U.P..Most of my detecting involves homesteads and logging camps. While there was fur trading activity in the U.P.,RESEARCH is a must. They used specific trade routes and portages and since these involve the great lakes overland activity was sparse.I can tell you from personal experience finding relics from homesteaders and the logging days is fairly easy,to find relics from the fur era would be a real find.I have researched and hunted a few known portage routes and came up empty handed. Our beach sand does not shift as much as coastel areas, your finds could be 2 inches deep or 4feet deep.Having said that,I know I'll be back out there again when spring comes, you just never know! Well beaches would probably be out of the question, because I know how the sands shift.
I live here in Wis. and do pretty good on the fur trade relics. Many good finds last year and I know that the U.P. has a lot to offer and know that no one from around here is hunting it hard. LOTS of undocumented sites and those are always the best to find.

I can post some pictures if anyone here is interested.

Did'nt mean to imply it is next to impossible to find relics from that era.In the U. P. the hub of the trade was based on the far eastern end.The shorelines of the great lakes were the major trade routes,no major river systems to speak of like the Mississippi, etc. In between the posts from Mackinaw to Green Bay was a whole lot of nothing.Always possible to run across dropped relics from this time period around Indian village sites or portage sites. Also,Indian village sites were not located thru out the whole U.P.,. just certain areas
