Went to Sharp Park today, after finding a safe route through the madness, I spent 2.5 hours wandering all over the woods, with only a couple of finds to show for it. Unfortunately, I forgot my camera.
1. Found a couple of morels peeking out of the ground. For those of you that like to go morel hunting, I imagine they will be in full swing in the next couple of days.
2. Found a junk ring and watch band in the middle of a thicket. Found a quartz watch as well, but it went in the garbage, it was decayed pretty badly. The rest of my finds were aluminum and tin cans.
3. And when I got home, I found a little bloodsucking fiend crawling on me, got Dan to kill it. Thank God it hadn't attached yet. I will be the first to say I'm not a girly girl. I can handle snakes, mice, spiders, wasps, etc. My first response to wildlife of any sort is usually to take a picture.
However, ticks turn me into a sniveling, hysterical, weepy mess. I had the first one ever in my life attached to me at Cascades last year, even though I was soaked in OFF. I'm surprised my heart survived the excitement. I don't remember driving home to get Dan to get it off me. That cigarette of his burned me and the tick, but the tick came off. I keep matches in my car now. I can survive a little burn blister.
So those of you that go out into those infested forests of horror, you can keep them. I remember why I stay out.
instead of using heat to get ticks to let go, cover them in salt. i grab extra packs from burger places and keep them in my finds pouch. just cover them up in salt and in short order they vacate. otherwise the salt will suck them dry. works on leeches also.
I'm not a girly girl.....ticks turn me into a sniveling, hysterical, weepy mess. LOL Same here, they give me the heebie jeebies. I found one attached to our dog last week..not my idea of a good way to start the week. :P

p.s. That is the first I've heard of the salt treatment, Steve.
