Bent Cent - 11/26

With some free time over Thanksgiving break and another gorgeous day, I headed for one of my fields. I call it my "Large Cent field" since I've found two there on past hunts. This year it was planted in soybeans and, while not as smooth as a baby's bottom, it sure is better than fighting knee deep corn stubble. Early in the hunt I found a thimble, "The Union Store." Later I added a white porcelain button and a flat one that says "Gilt" on the back. I know nothing about buttons, so any info would be nice. Other finds were two spoon handles, a piece of crotal bell and a nice white doorknob. I was winding down when I got a decent "29" signal and popped out a very green, bent disc. Back at the car I could just make out "One Cent" on it so this makes LC #3 from this field. I took some pics of it bent then stuck it between two pieces of wood in the vise. It is toasted, but I can still make out an 1849 date on it.

I wish the farmer who plants this land would do a nice deep plowing. This field has always been no-tilled since I've been paying attention. There has to be more goodies down there in the heavy clay!

That must be a great spot to go back to.....3 largies out of that field now huh....nice! Congrats on a good hunt, that button looks pretty old too. It's been real nice the last couple of days and I wanted to get out bad, but I spent some time with the family doing festivities and Christmas decorating. Cut down a big 9 foot tree earlier today.....looks real nice in the house, first time ever having tall ceilings to be able to get a big one. Anyway, congrats on your finds!....HH Anne!
