    Field tokens - 9/8

    Hi all,
I haven't been out much with the dry weather this summer but managed a few hours Sat. morning. I hunted the last of several field sites owned by a local farmer. This alfalfa field is a former 1873+ home site. On my first hole I dug a nice green penny and had hopes for an IHP but it was a wheatie, no date visible. I hunted for a while and found the usual cutlery pieces, buttons, harmonica reeds, and junk. I was about ready to quit when I got a good signal out towards the road. I dug a CW era "business card" for JW Peirce Dry Goods and Groceries, Grand Rapids, MI. I haven't found a lot of these tokens so that made my hunt. (Plus I grew up in GR. ) A few minutes later, another good signal, and I dug a large copper that I could tell was not a LC. This was another first for me, a Bank of Upper Canada half penny bank token. It is a bit rough but the 1857 date is readable. So, two firsts in the last minutes made it an exceptional day....this is what keeps you going in the dry spells of this hobby! Gorgeous day out too, with a hint of fall in the air.

    HH,

Thanks Giant! Yup, actually St. George on a horse slaying a dragon. Here's a pic of a better looking one than mine.

    Cool, I love finding tokens!
Why do they call it "Taking a dump" when you're actually leaving one?

I am glad you were able to get out and swing. I know this summer has been rough on all of us but now is a good time to get out there. I really like the tokens, and to find two in a day!!! Its not always the quantity but quality finds that matter. Like that nice little button, another gem in the rough.
    Great finds Anne.
