Ok, I'm way new to this.

Found this metal hook thing today. Top was about 8 inches down, huge tree roots had grown around it, so I know it's been there a while.

Was found near a local "swimming hole" kinda place in the woods of SW Mich.

I would wonder if it was a survey stake...but I found one of those, too...no where near this thing. Also, the survey stake looked like a spike, not a hook, and I left it.

Big, heavy and iron. 15 inches. Buried deep at an angle.

1. What is it?
2. Should I put it back?

Thanks!

Sorry about picture quality....would do a better job if there was any detail to look at.

Probably a hook used as a tool made by a farmer. So many things were fashioned from old iron back in the day. I would not worry about putting it back.

I talked to the farmer who owns the place (I had permission). He said that back in the 30's they dredged debris from the pond floor for fertilizer, and the stake might have been a tie down for their dredging rig? Seems reasonable.
