Michigan soil is great on old coppers. Lets see your best shape Indian head...

I've seen over the years from various forums that our Michigan soil preserves the old indian heads and large cents real nice compaired to other states. Especially ones found at home sites. Parks (most anyway) tend to eat up the indian heads due to fertilizer and other chemicals in the ground.
I'll start it off with a couple of my nicest ones. Lets see yours.

I agree that the dirt is pretty nice to old copper here's a few of my IH finds from the past. The Flying Eagle was my first and only one found (so far). The way it is in the holder is exactly how it came out of the ground. It was found in a dry sandy pine grove. The other IH's are my favorites and are 1865, 1866, and 1868.

Great stuff. That 66 and 68 are worth some good money. Looks like you don't like to use the peroxide method of cleaning. They still look great with the green patina on em. Congrats on some great finds. Mine pictured are from the past as well.

I've got quite a few IH's that are in just as good of shape. I didn't want to take them out of the 2 x 2's for a group photo, so I just picked out my oldest 4.

Actually I do use hot peroxide baths to clean pennies, but I only do it enough to get the crud off and then they soak in olive oil for a few weeks.

I pulled this 1905 Indian from 6 inches on my aunts farm in Portland, MI last week Wednesday. She is in pretty nice shape considering some of the other Indians I have found.

That is a nice one. The home sites seem to preserve the coins better, not as much fertilizers and other stuff in the ground.

I would give it a quick peroxide bath and see how she looks. But it looks pretty darn good the way it is. You can see some diamonds in the ribbon even. Nice.

I found this between the sidewalk and street (city property) and I think it's the best shape one yet.
