The back of mine does not look like this one, but the front is similar

This is what the back of mine looks like:

Update!
BonePicker reminded me of this one, which I had forgotten about!

I guess this is a ww2 trouser button?

I went through about 20 toothpicks to get this thing this far:

Thanks Bonepicker for the tips.
I just need to go and buy some mineral oil.
Some people use extra virgin olive oil on coins, but I am going to get some mineral oil for this one!

Couldn't have ask for much better weather for MDing. Finds were slow but good ones. BP, glad you and Troy got to come up. We will see about some setting another one up for late Feb. Will do some more research about the other areas and see what we can do then. Enjoyed it. Nick, Steve - buttons

Had a nice time today. Nice weather and great company.
The new site was interesting. Its always nice exploring a new area and trying to imagine the history that went along with it.
Nice Air force button muerte, and I agree that other one is probably a trousers button.
Nice First eagle button Slad.
Thanks for inviting us Andy.
And was also a pleasure to meet you WBTH.
Will have to get troy fixed up with a t-net.com account.
Going to take pics and post finds in the a.m., ended up with 3 wheaties and 8 buttons, but theyre pretty crusty and need some more time cleaning.
Will have to do it again soon. Theres bound to be some gold and silver in there somewhere.... We just have to find it.
What a huge difference nice cool weather makes.

Thanks Nick, I was pretty excited to find it! You'll find one some day, just keep digging!

Also I believe that pin you found is called 'Props and Wings' and has been used by both Army and Air Force aviation.

It could be, its hard to say with all of the rust on it.
Knock off or use electrolysis on some of that rust and see if the sides are squared.
A lot of square nails have a flange at the top like your common nails, but not all of them, and yours could have rusted away.
Here is a pic of a brass one I found earlier this year.

Still haven't cleaned everything up as much as I would like, but figure I better go ahead and post a pic.
3 master keys.
3 wheats. All 1940's
8 Buttons. 1 WW1 General Service Eagle Coat button, 3 13 star patterns, 2 toasted US ARMY, and 2 small blank buttons.
Also found a toasted aluminum disk with hole in it. I can make out OOP on it. Was wondering if this was a name-tag???
Had a great time will have to do it again.
Also went out and hit a few local spots today and bagged a few silvers.
http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/f...ers-some-wheaties-first-silver-medallion.html
So had a nice full weekend of detecting.

BP, there is so many things that the aluminum piece could be. Is there anything at all on it?

It was in real bad shape to begin with, so I ran it in the tumbler hoping to clean it up some more.
After a short run I could see a hole in the top, and the letters OOP on the far right.
It was so bad I ended up chunking it.
I was thinking tool tag, valve tag, tree tag, name tag, etc. Who knows........, but it was toasted.

I ended up getting some crazy bug bites on my ankles and elbows.
They look like huge ant bites. Only got a few, but one blistered up and was oozing. Itchy as hell too.
Was wearing jeans, boots, and long-sleeves. WTH>>
Chiggers?? anyone else get ate up.??

I came out pretty well unscathed.
I use that Sawyer Permethrin Premium Insect Repellent for my clothes and the 100% deet on my exposed skin.
I will probably die of cancer, but at least the bugs stayed away.

I remember you saying permethrin, and I thought with the cold weather the bugs shouldn't be bad.
They never bothered me that day, but sunday I started noticing some bites, as they started itchin....
And I was thinkin you were the crazy one.... Now I see why you were wearin bug spray, lol.

Honestly, now that you mention it, I've got a few bites too...no oozing, but itchy for sure. I'm starting to notice more and more of them. I'm keeping an eye on them, as well as the area on my neck where that tick bit me...sigh. But getting my first eagle button, a WW2 eagle coat button (the larger breast one), makes it all worth it. I think...as long as this all heals up OK. lol.

Hope you guys get well before the next hunt.
This is one of the bad things about hunting in the Summer (besides the snakes).

Ya'll must be a lot sweeter than I am. No bites. Worst I had was a sore ankle from all the walking. We sound like a bunch of old men at the county store comparing aches and pains.
I am surprised we didn't see any slithering creatures. But dang glad we didn't.

The bites weren't so bad, it was the itching that went along with it that drove me crazy.

Did see a couple snakes this summer, but only one while I was detecting and it was a black racer.
Be sure to keep that swollen ankle elevated... Btw, Maybe you should try to use your shovel as a cane when in the field.:laughing7:

Howdy fellows... Had a great time Saturday and looking forward to our next hunt... My favorite find of the day was the Mississippi Tax Token, but the mystery is the little lead coin/token that apparently is not going to clean up without destroying the markings, so I quit trying...

And Nick, Thanks again for the use of the Pinpointer, it surely made the hunt a little easier, faster, and much more fun...

WTH,
Anytime you need to borrow a pinpointer, just let me know.
It is difficult to hunt without one.
I assume the lead piece is the one on the top?
They may have hammered a piece of lead into a game piece or something (like for checkers).
What is that in the middle (a penny)?
I know the tax token is on the bottom, those are cool finds.
BonePicker may know of a "safe" way to clean up that belt buckle (I don't know if you should tumble it or not).
I love that we all got like a variety of finds.
Definitely was a hunt to remember.
Thanks Andy for organizing all these hunts!
