Found on the Platte River north of St. Joseph, Missouri. Was gold panning and turned over a good sized slab of fractured bedrock and this little piece of history revealed itself. Dimensions: 4" length. 1 1/2" width at base. Over 1/4" thick. I know absolutely nothing about points and such. I don't know if I broke the small piece off or if it was that way to start. Any information will be appreciated. Thanks!

Pretty cool looking arrow head! I grew up next to a creek here in Greene Cty and have found many arrow heads over the years, but none quite that big. Of course I know nothing about what tribe and date it could be from, "Sorry", but know it is an excellent find!! By the way do you ever have much luck prospecting here in Mo.?

posting info like this isnt very smart thing todo! the Missouri department of Natural Resources warns people of picking up artifacts from the rivers that are in a low water state. citations and arrest could be issued if caught. id remove this post if it were mine! good luck! really nice point!!

When I lived in Missouri, a game warden told me some of the best spots to hunt were on the sand bars and rock bars after high water went down. I hunted the Platte River and the Grand River Branches and found some nice stuff.

The State is off its rocker, if we don't pick them up, they end broken, chipped, or end up as sand eventually, useless to anyone and everyone. It is our DUTY to save the artifacts from destruction, since the State cannot and will not do it.

When I see the socialist states saving every point on every river and putting them ALL on permanent PUBLIC display at NO CHARGE, only then will I stop saving this nation's archaeological heritage. You know, I know, and we all know, that will NEVER happen. Their FOOLISH and idiotic rules are about CONTROL and nothing else. They want to take away our freedom to do anything that doesn't cost, the big RED Brother wants it all.

Very nice spear point! :icon_thumright: Yeah; probably good not to say where it was exactly where found.

You did the right thing, you rescued that artifact from certain damage, and you shared it with the public. The state wouldn't be so kind.

Did I talk to you at the Rochester Falls camp, near Rochester MO when you were panning for gold last year or the year before? Who ever I talked to, I gave him a few fossils I had found that day, he had a green gold pan.

AGREED ! BUT , when you post this kind of info on the net ,your telling everyone that you are retrieving artifacts from a location on a river bank and there are gubermint officials that scour the net for people admitting to doing a crime in Mysery ! S.S.S up actually applies here also ! Enjoy your outing's BUT keep some info to yourself!
