I didn't realize there was a Finds - New York. Once I did, I didn't see much posted. Well there's a lot of stuff in the ground in NY and I figured I'l post some of what I found in the last year or two. This is by no means all I've found in the last year or two. Doesn't include lots of Barber coins, tons of Indians, gold jewelry and a bunch of other relics including some really nice buttons and buckles. Hope it gives you a little inspiration to swing your metal detector.

Nice digs! What area of NY do you do most of your detecting?

Southeastern NY. Mostly Hudson River to the CT/MA line. Cross the river once in a while. Last year I was talking metal detecting with someone who up and says "I have an old house, you should come and metal detect at my place". He didn't have to tell me twice. He lived across the Hudson and the result was an 1804 Large Cent (very rare) and a 1788 2 Reales. The 2 reales is pictures above as is the large cent, 2 row, 3rd from left. It may be pretty toasted, but has full date and it really is a rare one. Click on the large cents, click again and then click again to zoom in. It's a high res photo.

I was actually just over in the Hudson highlands area today to do some hiking. It was mobbed!

It's apple picking and leaf peeping season. Everything is mobbed. Couldn't believe how much traffic there was.

Great finds!
I am literally "just across the river" (if your name is an indication!), and will soon have the semi retired time (if I can keep it semi) to hit the places I need to.
Give me a shout if your coming this way, and would like some company. My current partner's availability is limited, and it's always better with two.
