NC Native American finds

Let's post some of our NC Native American finds on here. Our state is quiet unique because it has the sea shore on the eastern end and the highest mt peak east of the Mississippi river, Mt. Mitchell, on the western end. This gives us a diverse range of tools, and the stones they were made from. I'm from Rutherford county, the foot hills area.

Here are a couple of items I have found. I saw the scraper, and after picking it up and looking at it, I thought "I'll flip this red rock," that you can see in the first picture," just for the sake of in case it might be something"......

Neat find Dave, I'm near you here in McDowell and find points and native American finds, European pottery, etc.

Here's some pics of a chisel I have. There's a post on the native american forum title with some pics of a chisel from Appalachia. I have a couple more but haven't got a pic of them. hope they come out clear enough.

Here is a hand grinding stone/metate. I am a novice at naming tools, so if it is incorrect, please forgive me. It is made form white quartz. found by me in western NC.I apologize for the pic upside down.

Dave thanks for posting your neat finds I'll attach a couple that I've found even though I think I've posted these in other threads on Treasure net, These are from my place Treasure Valley here in WNC.

Sorry, I disagree. The surface that is used for grinding is not flat enough. I'll scare up a picture and show you the difference. Keep packing them home though.

Notice the flat side that is used for grinding. Here's a couple of pictures of "manos." The first set of pictures are granite, from Nevada. The second set plain old rock from Oregon. Hope this helps!

Thanks for replying TC. Maybe I stated it wrong in the description, or maybe I'm just wrong, but it is dished out in a circular pattern. It's off-set on the left side. The picture on the left is upside down so the dish is facing downward. I would assume they used it to put items into and use a pestal to grind the items up. I read where the medicine men used smaller stones to grind medicinal herbs etc in. Can anyone see the "dish" in it or am I just seeing things? I've also got manos and understand what they are and how they look.

Here's a couple of other items I have found. I tried to remove the photo of the small point with the tape measure but it won't delete. It is not mine and was a photo of a similar point I found someone else posted. I will post mine.

I have found these surface finds in Wilson County, NC eastern coastal plain.



And Found this Medal Detecting in Brunswick County, NC a 1714 George I Indian Peace Medal.

I never saw one of the small ones like I found, the eversharp above, until recently on here. I see you have a couple of them.

Buck, I have only one out of that type of flint I believe. Its helical or spiraled ? I try to show it on the pic laying on the desk.
