What Is It? Give me your SWAG...
I found this on the Northern California coast, north of Crescent City. It appears to be some kind of shell. Waddayathink?? How about it, Cyber Dan, you live over in that neck of the woods...and Oregon Viking. I posted this in the "What Is It" thread and no one could identify it...

Not sure what you're looking for. I think it's a coral that grew on the seabed around some cobbles and other debris, then was broken loose and washed up. The underside is just the shape of the stones or whatever it was attached to.

Looks like a very thick clam shell that had something growing from it. Don't know what the groove is though.

Your item IMO is one of those "anomalies" the ocean spit up at some point.

I like the prehistoric clam shell theory. :)

Google "purple hinged giant rock scallop". The surf tumbles and erodes these shells.
