got out today with my one hunting buddy and decieded to hit an old spot in the woods we've pulled some oldies out in the spring. not much goin on the first half hour of the hunt so i moved a few feet away from a tree and get a solid 12-45 on the etrac...thinkin i might have a dime i pop the plug and see its a large cent and toss it in my finds bag. about an hour or so goes by and it get a 13-42 and decide to take a look.....out pops a classic head half cent and i think i can see 1826. not many finds after that so we make our way back to the truck where i keep water and rinse off the large cent....to my surprise i can see its a liberty cap and then i can make out a date of 1794.......i was very happy and this was my first libery cap LC.

what i do is use old topo maps to locate old home sites in the woods, alot of times there will be some trace of the home (stone pile or cellar hole), if you can find one that hasn't been hunted to hard there is a good chance you'll find some oldies.... the best research site is www.historicaerails.com or www.historicmapworks.com or http://www.pennpilot.psu.edu/ ..... the overlay feature on the historic aerials site is very useful, historic mapworks also has some overlays on a few of their maps
