Since March of 2009 the laws changed.
ALL county run parks, in Harris County Texas have prohibited metal detector use. Even having one IN a county park is submissible to fine/confiscation/arrest or a combination of all. :(
Originally it was just a detector use ban in County Commissioner Jerry Eversoles Precinct 4, county parks, but since the petition was introduced, all commisioners were convince to change the rules.

There is already a thread on this and is an old item----- since NOW !!! ALL the Harris County--- county parks are off limits to detecting.

Here is the link for the petition.

your link worked good thanks for the update.has anybody had any problems hunting the schoolyards?

Lots of the city schoolyards in the Houston city limits are fenced, gated, and locked. Some have regular park areas next to them and you should have no problem searching in those. Some schools have SPARK PARKS which are actually schoolgrounds that can be used as public park areas, after school hours. Again those are fine to search. I haven't had any problems detecting in the city owned parks. Just beware of all of the county owned parks, in Harris County.
