Howdy guys, wow those are some incredible finds can slaw! Iā€™m over on the east side of the state....Plymouth. Iā€™ve been doing this for a few years and I try to get out at least every other weekend in the summer. Iā€™ve been out several times already this year but I donā€™t find much for relics...mostly coins. Found about 5 silver dimes so far this year. My best finds to date are a standing liberty quarter and a barber dime. If you ever wander over this way feel free to pm me if your wanting to hunt!

Wow [emoji44]
I would most likely die from a heart attack if I found a copper culture artifact!! Especially in my front yard.
Iā€™ve been out of the hobby for a couple years since my son was born, but getting a Nox 600/800 depending on my patience level with all this snow.
I am originally from Onalaska and still visit family, we should all try a get together sometime this summer.

That's a great idea! I will keep in touch with everyone, and maybe look to start a new Wisconsin group of our own, since the currenr ones are mostly dead. That way we can all keep in touch with each other, and try to plan a day or two this summer or fall. Does anyone have a good research tool for cellar hole locations? I have not found one if so...

very nice, thank you. maybe when the weather straightens out we can get together for a hunt. i have never done that before.

That's sounds great! I have also never done a group hunt, but look forward to giving it a shot. If nothing else, it will be nice to finally meet others in person who share the same love of the hobby. I'm Ryan by the way, nice to meet you Rick!

You are definitely a great detectorist rac7856! Impressive finds, looking forward to seeing what else you find, or have found.

What are the round objects in the first and third pics? Horse tack, or something else?

horse tack and horse drawn wagons and equipment is my guess, most are hand forged. the smaller ring inside the square at upper left of 3rd picture is half of a snaffle bit.

They looked hand forged. Very cool find.
Are you guys getting more bad weather again tonight? We are looking at 4-8" and freezing rain tonight and into tomorrow. Was 40* today though, so I snuck out on my lunch break for a quick hunt on a sweet new permission. With only an hour break though, it went by fast.

it's supposed to start about 8 am wed. morning and end at 2 am thurs. and were looking at about the same totals you mentioned. we had about 10 inches over the weekend it was starting to go pretty quickly today. i had been planning on going to my folks house in sextonville last weekend and probably will go this saturday. i'm hoping they had a little less snow and won't get as much this time and a couple days of nicer weather will open up things enough to hunt. sextonville is about 7 miles south of richland center on hiway 14 if you're not familiar with where that's at.

I know right where it's at now. My cousins own the vet clinic in Hillsboro, and my uncle was a State trooper in Richland Center when I was growing up. That whole area is gorgeous!
Shoot me a PM if your interested, I have an interesting place just outside of Richland Center I plan to ask permission for this summer. I will send you an aerial shot, via Google satellite. Should be a good spot, and I can certainly ask if a group hunt with 3 of us would be OK if your up to doing one.

Prairie has so much history and most people have no idea. I'm in Dubuque but used to go there a lot but never detected around there. River and trout fishing and coon hunting with a crotchety Korean war USMC VET from Eastman (dead now), plus working on the dam at Lynxville i stayed in Prairie. Trying to get on some ground around mineral point but no luck yet.

Hello from Onalaska.
Very open to meeting others from the area.

Welcome!
Iā€™m also in Onalaska. I recently have put the hobby on hold, due to some family demands haha, but hopefully will pick it back up in a year or two. Feel free to reach out. I still like to do research, & do map overlays of the area and what not. Our area is rich with sites. Someone from Trempealeau this summer found a copper spearpoint in his property. A bucket lister for sure.

There seems to be very little life in the Wisconsin sub forum, and I am hoping to change that.
I am really trying to find other Wisconsin hunters that I can occasionally connect with to talk about this great state of ours and maybe detect with occasionally.
Wisconsin is absolutely rich with history, and full of great places to hunt. Maybe not East coast great, but still.
- My town was founded in the late 1600's as a fur trading outpost.
- It had a military hospital for soldiers from 1859-1864.
- We fought a battle during the War of 1812, and were even lost to the British Gov't. for a short time afterwards.
- The Black Hawk war (1832) was right out of our back door, and the treaty to end it was signed right here in town.
Hopefully there are others on here in southern Wisconsin with the same hobby looking for others to share it with.

I am hoping some fellow Wisconsinites will post pics on this thread of their favorite Wisconsin finds.

Some of my favorite finds from my first year, 2017:

Rifleman's cuff button, believed to be War of 1812:

My one and only 90% silver, a 1940 Mercury dime:

I found (2)- 1887 IHP, both in PERFECT condition. I gave one to my son, who was with me that day:

Towle Mfg. "victor" series fork, circa 1882, silver plated:

These are just a few of my favorites, i will post more if anyone responds with their Wisconsin found favorite finds.

Thank you for looking, and happy hunting out there! Spring has almost sprung!!
I'm here in Milwaukee, my best finds here have been an 1866 3 cent nickel, silver barber dime 1914, silver Merc dime 1924, a few silver Roosevelts, 1901,1902,1906 Indian head pennies. I've found everything from a gun to gold bracelet silver rings it's definitely fun but I agree I never really see anyone else detecting in the Milwaukee area
