Gold Bug Pro?

I am looking a bit around for MD’s, some kind of a multiple purpose machine.
At the moment - I am still fighting with my TREASURE HUNTER XJ9-3050, but I made already some bad discoveries…
Well – I’ll take the blame, I should have read more about it on the forum!

Is the Gold Bug Pro a good selection for different targets like coins, gold prospecting, relic hunting?
How deep will he detect a US quarter in average soil? Should I have 2 coils for different targets?

Did you had bad experience with this MD? Nothing is perfect – I know.

What is the real difference between the SE and the PRO (besides the 100 dollars…)

I can’t afford to buy another bad MD (or I need to find me a new home - one of the finest women is watching me …)

The Gold Bug Pro is not a good coin or relic detector because it is too HOT. This means it will sound off well on tiny bird shot and every tiny piece of metal. It was designed as a gold nugget hunter in the boondocks. Oh, it will find coins but you will waste a lot of time on your knees. Suggest you study the new Garrett AT Pro as a jack of all trades detector.

Sandman i have to disagree.
The Gold Bug Pro, GB SE and the Tek G2 are very close cousins with
different audio and standard coils being about the only different between them.
The G2 is advertised as a relic hunter.
I have the GB SE and it has a great TID and locks hard on coins.
Very easy to use and great in iron and that's were there
very good relic machines.
I will say it might not be a good starter unit or be my first choice hunting through
can slaw but a little discipline and adjusting the Disc/tone break makes
it a sweet machine.

I see how the 19khz could make it rough on the slaw and BB's. But I HATE the idea that I might miss gold! I had an Xterra 305 with the 18khz coil and it was no worse on slaw than the lower frequency, but it LOCKED in on nickels and hit hard on gold. All the Etrac not responding to gold hoopla lately has me thinking GBDP! Wish there were more videos of the 2 tone VCO mix... Don't hear much bad about the GB's except from people who have never used one.

YES – I am looking at the G2 as well. Of course, the Garrett AT Pro is a very impressive machine and I am confident about their service and quality as well.

Gmanlight, What I meant was the Gold Bug is maybe too HOT for most hunters that don't have the experience that you or I might have. All detectors find metal, but some are specialized to do better for certain types of targets you'd have to agree.

With the 5" coil your not going to get a quarter at 12". With the 11" in most cases it will get it. The GB Pro and its sister the Teknetics G2 will hunt in iron like no machine I have ever seen. They have 2 processors that make them VERY fast recovery machines. The Tek G2 comes stock with a 11" coil and they have a special now that you can get the 5" coil for $75. Not gonna be having that special much longer. Its a really good deal.

If you just wanting a jack of all trades the Tek Omega 8000 is very impressive also.

The only concern Ive had with my GBSE is EMI. If close to towers it goes nuts. I go to 5" coil and back down on sens. If that fails I go all metal and let threshold make up for loss of gain. I have found enough clad to pay for several coils and lots of wheaties and silver dimes.

I'm pondering the GB pro or SE myself, not as a general hunt, but purely as a small gold in the park machine.

I've been digging for 20 years, so not all that concerned about coins these days.

The GB Pro just looks like the machine that fits my plans, hot for small items, lightweight, 5" coil stock, with upgrade to 11" if I want. Rather than cover huge areas, I'm more interested in tight coverage of small, often trashy areas.

So any one try this machine in trashy parks? How bad is it going to be with the can slaw?

Has anybody used the gold bug Pro on wet salt water beach sand and in the water?

The GB Pro has Ground Balance range that covers salt but the SE does not.

I have the GB SE and it does ground in the wet salt and
is stable doing it. There is on major differences between any of the GBs or G2
The SE was the first one made then fallowed by more versions .
The GB wont be the deepest machine in salt water but does pretty good.
Tested my CZ and GB in wet sand on a small piece foil the
GB would hit at 3.5 inches the CZ was half that.
On a deep nickle 8 to 10 inches [ hard to measure with sand falling in]
The CZ had a small edge maybe a inch.

If your a in the water hunter get a water maching . If you like to zig zag wet to dry the GB does it.

I have my water machine but thought the Gold Bug Pro might do better on small gold chains that I know my PI misses.

Obviously, you have not used a GB Pro, it is a good coin and relic hunter and it does NOT sound off on every tiny bird shot and every tiny piece of metal and I don't spend any more time on my knees with the GB Pro than I do with any other detector. It does have a sensitivity control. Suggest you study the new Fisher GB Pro.
