Looking for good (salt) water detector...CZ-21??

I've been struggling with research on saltwater detectors. I am looking for one that can be totally submerged with diving/snorkeling.

I have looked at the Sand Shark, Excalibur II, and CZ-21...

I understand this is the Fisher forum, but can someone please give me a good comparison of the three? Price is not an option...my only concern is the short warranties on a couple of these. But...if the machine lives up to the hype, I'm all for it!

So please...someone who has used one the the three machines listed; please provide some pros and cons of that particular machine.

If you are deadset on one...please provide why. If you are deadset against one...same thing. Any advice is welcomed and appreciated. Thank you all.

I am a diver and have used most of the water detectors that are available. All the ones you listed will be fine for saltwater diving. The Fisher CZ-21 is built like a tank and I've had it down to 140 foot. I haven't had the Sand Shark down that far, but it is also a great detector, but has little disc which you may of may not need depending what you are looking for. My Excal is excellent also but mine is the Excal 1000, not the II. The Garrett Sea Hunter II and Infinium LS should also be on your list for study. I have never had a White's that didn't leak at some time plus the coils want to float unless you buy the extra weighted coil.

    Good Luck,

I have a whites BHID, and a Surf Pi dual field, neither of them have ever leaked. Since Whites went with the red seal there is no leaking problem anymore. As to the coils floating, I have never found that to be the case.

My beach hunter ID coil floated like a cork if you let it go...

I have the BHID 300 with dual field coil. This is just about neutral boyant. The older BHID did float.

The BHID 300 is not a dual field, but a dual frequency like the Fisher CZ-21. They advertise the coil as "near-neutral buoyancy" but they recently bought mine back because the coil floated. You can weight the coil down with a sand filled sock when searching the water and the lighter coil is an advantage for most of the newbies that just do the land and never venture into the water. I just wondered why the other manufacturers didn't have coils that floated.

Granted the newer O-rings are an improvment for the leak problems that plagued the older versions. The BHID does work well and has a larger coil in the 300.

I never had any complaints about the performance of my BHID, but after having to send it in twice for leaks, I mad at it and traded in on my Sov GT....Never regretted it for even a second, the Sov GT is a fantastic beach machine.....
