All the parts come from the lowest bidder.....So they get what they pay for and try to convince us that this model is deeper than the last.

I'm pretty sure there isn't any semi conductor manufacturing going on for commercial toys in the good ol' USA anymore. And you can bet all those reels of SMT stuff come right off a boat or plane at some international port. Of course there's always the possibility that the shaft comes straight from Uncle Sam but oh yeah, that's a given....

Yep, Sandman has it right, by now we should be digging 22" deep dimes with the mid-level models and every signal I get that isn't that deep must be operator error.

Sandman-Where do you get your information? It seems like you make your posts as if you have some inside information but you are normally wrong and just giving your opinion which is not factually based.

All the parts do not come from the lowest bidder as you always tell people. Like any business we try for the low prices while still maintaining a level of quality and many of our parts we could get much cheaper but don’t due to problems they could cause in performance or in field failures. Quality first, then negotiate price……Defective units cost more in the long run.

We recently sent back thousands of electronic components to a vender because they did not meet our standards and had a high failure rate and inevitably are now paying more for the same part from a different vender.
We went from plastic ABS mounting brackets on water units to a much more expensive Lexon trying to achieve higher quality but found the less expensive had more flex and were less prone to cracking.
We use some components that are almost 50 times more expensive than the cheapest ones on the market but we use the ones with a virtually zero failure rate. There are many, many more examples of us trying to get parts for better prices but not using them because they fail or do not work as well as some of our trusted venders we have used for many years.

100% of our non electronic components used in building our detectors are made in the USA-All metal tubes come out of NJ and virtually every plastic piece out of AZ. All our electronics components come from some of the industries most reputable distributors such as Digi Key and Mouser

All of our detectors are made in the USA except the BH JR model

The above are facts and not based on personal opinions.

    Hope this helps,

    Mike

Wait a minute....Who says anything NOWADAYS made in the U.S.A. is any better than something made in another part of the world anyway?

There was a time when that was true. I dont think it is applicable anymore. It's a global economy now.

I have alot of good quality things that don't say anything about U.S.A. on them except the store I bought them from.

So, I suppose it all boils down to the company that makes them and their values and integrity regardless to what side of the globe they are sitting on.

First Texas makes a decent unit. I have no quandry with them.

Re: Fisher detectors made in texas...............

Just to push back a little, I didn't notice any criticism of manufacturing in Sandman's post, more an argument of marketing. Fisher, FT in general seem to have a good bunch of people in their regional folks and indeed in the many shops that sell their products.

We see a lot of new model worship with every generational up-tick in technology and the inevitable claim by the mavens, sycophants and groupies that this new model is deeper than anything before it. Well when I want real depth I still go to the CZ's in my tool box, the F70 is a great compliment to them, but cannot replace them.

And if it's a fast-paced shallow-to-intermediate hunt zone from a seeded field hunt to a freshly scraped park zone to a totlot, that 1235X is the killer on fast response and zeroing in on targets. So some of us suffer from pre-processor analog-age melancholy blues. Well there must be a market there so shame on us for being a part of it.

Mike, you seem to reinforce what you object to about Sandman's post when you state, "We recently sent back thousands of electronic components to a vender because they did not meet our standards and had a high failure rate and inevitably are now paying more for the same part from a different vender."

    Too much info.

I thought Sandmans statement was over the top and glad Mike Scott stepped in.
If you don't like a brand or a build quality that's fine and is your choice but to put it out like
there is some kind of shell game is a bit much.
I have a CZ 3D and many say its built like a tank and it is .
It also feels like one after swinging for a couple of hours.
My F75 , some say looks cheap but has tons of info and easy to swing.
Each has advantages over the other in certain hunting environments.

Thanks Lowbatts. My post didn't mean to say manufacturers always buy from the lowest bidder though it pays a big part of the decision. Granted the components have to meet specs and one of these is reliability. I wasn't singling out First Texas as some might have thought but wonder why they have such thin skin. I love my CZ's and even the older 1235-X as a real coin finder. My 1280's are great for the price value for freshwater and I have been able to use them at some saltwater beaches too as I state in some of my posts. My CZ-20 is still going strong after a great many years as I don't use the pinpoint button. I just wish you wouldn't sell the BH line at the big box stores where the customer doesn't get any first grade knowledge on coin retrieval or ethics of the hobby as I feel this does more harm than good.

Re: Fisher detectors made in texas...............

I reread this thread and feel the need to respond to Mike of FTP. My statements about parts coming from the lowest bidder is only partly true as you stated you had to send a lot of parts back for not meeting spec. Makes us wonder how many got through before you caught it......Now you are getting that part from a different vendor. This is good news that builds confidence in FT. My statement about the parts from the lowest bidder was general statement not directed to First Texas though it was just posted on the Fisher section. As for first hand knowledge, I don't work for any of the manufacturers anymore.

all co. work by the same principle. build the best you can at the cheapest price and then charge a price that consumers are willing to pay for the product. You can thank the current Wal Mart for that mentality and the American consumer who wants everything cheap

    And just my two cents!
Typically American manufacturers do a great job INMHO. One thing that hurts
our manufacturers is the price of energy has gone way up and that costs all
segments of production a pretty penny. This country was built on free
enterprise and cheap energy. If we can drill some more of our own oil and gas
I bet we could outproduce the world and do it more inexpensively.
    Just my opinion.
