    Tell me about FISHERS

Been looking at the lower end Fishers F2,F4 and F5,said to myself, self there may be just alittle better Fisher out there that may be an older model but to some degree better than these i have listed and maybe just abit cheaper,so can anyone who uses an older Fisher give me some suggestions, primary hunting would be in mid to highly mineralized soil, coin shooting and jewelery/gold hunting.Figured this might be the best spot on the site to ask this question, thanks.Rich

    Re: Tell me about FISHERS

You would do well to check out the field tests of the Fisher line up as this will give you an unbiased opinion of features and use. One of my favorites is the Fisher CZ-6a, CZ-6, CZ-5, and CZ-7a.

    Re: Tell me about FISHERS

    Hi Rich
I have been running the CZ fisher line since 1992 having owned G.A.P. Metal detectors in the 90s, i have run just about every detector for 39 years and i can trurhfuly say they kick the snott out of any others vlf.
So being 1 of the best detectors out there, they r hard to find used, no one wants to give them up so if u find 1 jump on it,learn it and u will be happy.
I have a CZ6a and a CZ5 and would not trade them for any new detector on the market today,
You will find these kind of statements all over the web.
I just dont know y Fischer dosen`t just start making more models of them. thanks Gary

    Re: Tell me about FISHERS

They don't make more of the old models (except the CZ 20 now the CZ 21) as Fisher isn't Fisher but First Texas and they are making big profits unlike the original Fisher that produced well built but often flawed detectors.

First consideration with a true Fisher machine is will you be able to get it repaired or even be able to buy coils/spares. Did it work correctly in the first place as some models like the 1270 came out and lacked depth and had poor discrimination so you have to make certain you get a late version. Even then to get the best results you would have to add your own external knob to correctly ground balance the discrimination side. Key pads on other models were rather poor and acted up from the start. Coinstrike came out at a rather high price but I found the ID Edge to be both better and cheaper. CZ 6 the first dual frequency machine which licensed the technology from Minelab sticks out as an oddity as you can't just swap coils with the other CZ's. Around 22 trimmers on the CZ's and you need to know someone who can adjust them correctly when the time comes. CZ 7 was a move into digital. Don't know if they ever fixed the problem but they would run the batteries flat with the detector switched off. Supposed to be rainproof but wasn't !

So you have to be careful with what you buy and they are going to be old. Not something I would get off E-Bay. If your in a club and you can try the detector out and the price is good fine. If your only to have one detector then I'd tend towards getting something fairly new. Should prove lighter, less battery costs, no repair worries and lots of third party coils that will improve performance without a detector upgrade being needed.

Hi Rich, there are quite a lot of used /in v.good condition, Fisher 1265's and 1266's and even the 1280x underwater detectors for sale.( checkout Treasure Hunting magazines UK ) their track record is proven for being sensitive, fast motion, switch on and go, with reasonable depth capabilities, and selling for small money!
They may be dated but still do the work that others don't. twilight fox

    Re: Tell me about FISHERS

One of my favorites is the Fisher CZ-6a, CZ-6, CZ-5, and CZ-7a. Thanks Sandman, I know you love the CZs so I have a question. In our local classifieds there is an add, a lady is selling a CZ5 (maybe it's a CZ6). It says Quicksliver on the control panel. Has one concentric looking coil about 8"-9". The add has been running 2 weeks now. She is asking $200 OBO. Which means the price is somewhere below $200, right? I just bought a new detector, so not really looking for another, but maybe i shouldn't let this one go. If I go look at it is there anything I should watch out for or ask about? I'm thinking I'll offer her $125 .....I just checked the add again it's a CZ-6

Hey there C.A.P. metal, I've neen using my CZ6 since 1993 and have tried many other machines since. I've tried the four other big digital brands. All the other machines I've tried were the newer digital displays. My experience has shown me that the CZ6 analog display is much more stable on good targets, that needle just locks on. The CZ's just perform better in bad ground. E.M.I. is never an issue. Iv'e done some actual field tests on several different machines at the same time in some of our highly minerized soil in the San Francisco parks. I searched and found some deeper coin signals with the CZ6. I marked the 6 to 8 inch deep signals and brought over my two friends 3 different expensive digital machines and had them sweep their coils over the marked targets. None of the three expensive digital machines could get a signal on any of my marked coin signals! I dug up the marked targets in front of my hunting buddies and came up with a wheatie and a silver rosie! You should have seen their faces! The older Fishers manufactured in Los Banos before the buy out by First Texas were in my opinion just better detectors. Anyone out there who can find any of the good old used CZ6's or CZ5's, you need to grab one fast! I've seen a few on Ebay get as many as 20 bidders for one machine!

Yes CoolHand i have a couple newer digital tek T2 and a Fisher F75 Minelab Explores SE, but i keep goin back to my old analogs of witch my CZ6a and 5 realy get the stable deep signals. I sent then to First Texas to have them retuned a year ago and they did a great job both are hotted than they were new, they had to put a new coil on the CZ6a with the new coil the 6a gets a little deeper than the CZ5 in my test garden. ahve you tried the CZ 5" coil i got one comming next week a kid speded on my 5" and broke it anyway that little coil is great use a litle more senativity it goes deep in the trash.
