Some air testing with the F5
So I ended up going with the Fisher F5 and it showed up yesterday. Of course it was pouring rain and it's suppose to turn colder and change to snow this afternoon. But since I couldn't get outside and give it a little workout, I figured i'd go ahead and do some air tests to fimiliarize myself with everything a little better. Well, I went through all the typical things- penny, nickel, dime, quarter, tabs, foil, etc. and they all came right in where I had been reading that they would as far as a VDI # and identity. There was one other item I wanted to try, which was gold. So I went to the coin collection and grabbed the 1881 gold $5, my only gold coin. So I tested it, and again, just as everyone else is. So from there, since I already had the old coins and such out, I figured I go ahead and air test a few of them, just to amuse myself, but then I thought maybe this could be of use to someone So I made up this little thing to show the results. I think most of the items are typical and to be expected, but I was surprised by the 3 cent coin and the large 1 cent coin. I don't think i'll be digging all the foil I come across, but I do think it proves the point that if you want to get "all" the good stuff, you have to dig everything! Hope this helps someone out and feel free to comment.

Re: Some air testing with the F5
Thanks for the info. You are correct about digging it all. I was digging tabs last sunday and dug a small gold ring(10k) that I.D.'d the same as the tabs.
