I need a F70/75 specialist :p

Hi, I'm new to Fisher and just bought a slightly used F70, hardly has a scratch on it. I can go thru the whole menu and scan anything and it reads it accurately. But when I turn it on it beeps crazy like it has interferance going on and I can't get it to ground balance. I've messed with the frequencies and sensativity but it still sound like it's disturbed and it's driving me nuts!

Am I missing something or doing something wrong? It keeps on with a high pitch beeping in the number range 89-91 or so. I've taken it to the areas that I've detected before with my Minelab X-70 where's there is no interferance so I think it's just me

...and yes that batteries are new.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Double check the coil connection- if it's not tight it will cause interference. Try lowering sensitivity to 45-65 to see if it quiets down.

Don't know about the F-70, but the F-75 won't ground balance if there is any metal nearby. You have to find a clear patch. If it's so trashy that you can't then do a reset and start with the default GB. Try turning the sensitivity down to 40 or so. Or, try it in all metal and manually set the GB. If there are powerlines, wet electric fences or truckers with CBs nearby it might be necessary.

If it has a coil cover take it off and clean any silt out of it (or try to GB without the cover). Sometimes they pick up hitchhikers.

And, of course, do it outdoors well away from the emissions of indoor lighting and current.

I think the coil connector is the most likely culprit. Get some De-Oxit at Radio Shack and treat the plug and socket. Make sure it seats completely and that the knurled ring is aligned properly and securely tightened. I had a similar issue with my F70 until I did what I suggested.

hello there, i also own the f70 and i had the same exact problem when i first bought mine. to be honest to this day i still dont know why its so damn zany, but if u tune in the right settings u can keep it pretty quiet. i noticed if the sensitivity is set over 70, that's when it comes pretty unstable. i run disc level 20 sens 70 thresh-3 and notch around 20, fill free to use whatever tone but this is the setup i run to keep it quiet. this machine has power and a fast processor. i have found objects pretty deep in the ground. loves the copper but in my opinion, hates the silver. i run the 11'' DD on mine for depth so maybe that's why I'm missing the silver, but i can snag a wheat 6 inches or more in the ground without a problem. i love to hunt coins also but this seems more like a relic machine to me. i hope this helps.

Looks like you have some good suggestions already. The coil connector, or just turn the sensitivity down, until you get it ground balanced. Then try to ease it back up. That's what I do with my F 75.

I have a F75 and a AT Pro. I can tell you the F75 is very sensitive and you have to tweak it a bit with the sensitivity and changing frequency when there is too much interference. Plus the large coil and fast processing can seem frustrating as the detector wants to see "everything". But I can tell you that once you get it running smooth it is one heck of a detector. I find that using the small DD round sniper coil that came with my F75ltd package really works well when the large coil takes in too many targets for you handle. The F75 is not a simple turn on and go machine. You have to work with it and change some of your detecting habits. Kind of like a sports car vs a family car. Both are cars but handle differently.

I agree about the F75. Just upgraded from a Bounty Hunter 202, and yes the large coil picks up everything. My old test gardens are full of signals I did not know was there. All my old hunts just became new hunts.

Yea I hear that. The At-Pro is a quiet ride "out of the box" where the F-70 & F75 is what they call a "hot box". Out of the box everything is pushed out to the max.

With the At-Pro on standard, I never heard EMI, (ok to be fair, I never really pushed the pro to the max-- I might try that as well ) and thought that it just didn't exist though,, after firing my new F75, yea its there even from my cell-phone!.
The difference though is that the F75 goes really deep in comparison. Takes me a bit of getting used to but once I do.
Thing is once you know you can push it, I am always trying to push the F75 to the point of instability because the results are great. (Even when I too, have to pull the sensitivity back to 30-35)
I do like the pro and its a keeper as well but, I expect more from the F75

You should the version number appear on the screen instead of the "FF" letters. This resets the machine to the factory settings. Being microprocessor driven, they sometimes get a hiccup and act very erratic. If the batteries are fresh, and the connector is tight, and this doesnt help, I would trying another coil if can. If it still acts the same, your machine may need to be sent in to the factory. If it opperates better with the substitution coil, then you know your coil is bad.

Tesoro nailed them f75 would not quit beeping and running up and down the scales. I am going to keep trying but if I do not get it square back to factory then on e-bay. Time to hunt not waste time with a new machine. Good luck with yours..

I'm new to the F75 myself But found that if I hunt close to any power lines or under ground phone or cable lines it will pick-up lots of EMI try a different area lower the sen. I found when I'm away from any kind of power I can run sen at 80+ remember to keep your cell phone off and your pin pointer away from the detector. I found its best to keep it in my back pocket when swinging

Yea Like your self and Lost hunter I am new to the F75se as well. I found a video on you tube that showed running the Sens as low as 30 still, hit on coins 6" deep in this chaps test garden. His soils were dry and iron oxide levels low. Its such a hot box from the factory that, I think you can drop to a real low sens and,, still ring in a reasonable depth.
Oh a friend with a V3i showed me, by pointing the coil at neighboring houses and pulling the pin point switch you could see where the Emi originated.
If something is blurting out Emi and the coil is facing directly the source, it seems to make the pin pointer go wild. that the worst Emi is the pulsing variety, like from digital devices. eg home WiFi routers etc .
So yea in my test garden I have to scrim out to 5 and Sens at 30 and, I hitting the test coins. (in low iron soils)
