Metal Detecting
I've got a Gold Bug Pro and recently purchased the 10" Solid DD coil for it to squeeze a little more depth out of it for nugget hunting.
The areas I detect are known gold producing placers in Arizona. One area in particular going back to the 1700's with little activity in the last 50 years.
However these areas are EXTREMELY mineralized. Dark red soil and large magnetite rocks everywhere. Swinging the coil near a magnetite rock the size of a basketball produces the same effect as swinging your coil near a steel anvil.
But obviously these areas have gold. Quartz + Iron (sometimes) = Gold.
How do you guys recommend I run my GBP?
I read once that the detector likes the gain to be set at 11 o'clock for maximum depth. Still the case with the new 10" Solid DD coil?
Should I consider running the detector in discrimination mode to screen out iron when I hit areas with lots of magnetite rocks?
Thanks for your help. :metaldetector:
