You'd do better with Fisher's chest mount and take all that weight off the shaft.

I tried the belt mount and didnt mind it but I just prefer to have everything on the unit. It looks and feels better plus I dont have to worry about getting tangled up, taking the unit on/off each time I go out, etc. I tried using zipties to mount the unit on the back and it works well enough for the beach and I liked it (weight wise) but I need a permanent solution. I ordered a cz21 handle off ebay for $15 and am going to mod it to be able to mount on the back permanently. I think this is a good cheap solution and if I dont like it after it didnt break the bank.

Is this the shaft you are talking about? It would have to make the balance better if your hunting out of the water. Anderson Fisher Metal Detector Regular Shaft 36" Length | eBay

Yes. But I have decided to not get it. I am going to get this: Fisher CZ 20 CZ 21 Handle | eBay

and making this

file.php

And I will use the original shaft, which will save me money and allow me to still use the top mount if I choose.

That is a nice mod for $15. Thanks for the tip. I bought the 8" coil for less drag and it is quite a bit lighter. I have to use a swingy thingy on the 3D with the 10.5" coil if I want to hunt more than an hour or so.

Here is the mod completed and I am not breaking warranty as the device is 100% in tact with no extra holes or anything, just an extra handle clamped on that can easily be taken off. It cost about $25 total between the extra shaft, screws, and sheet metal. I only used a drill, screwdriver, and hacksaw to make it. I cut the handle a few inches and then had to saw the actual holder from the sheet metal scrap. Took about 30 mins total. I tried a piece of plexi glass at first but it broke when I put the unit on so I used sheet metal. Tested it this morning and it worked perfectly. Plus I can still belt mount if I want to. This is much more comfortable then on top and gives me maybe 3 hours of searching time compared to about 1 hr with it on top. If I am going all day I would probably belt mount.

Adam that looks liked decent mod. FYI you know you can buy that plastic piece that fits in groove of CZ for $13? I would hate to see you have it fall off off the pole. I'm mainly using the CZ strictly for water which is why I went with the smaller 8" coil, out of the water it is definitely hipmount time!
