I just bought a Fisher f19 from a guy says he used it for Mabey 2 hours . It's in very good condition. But there's a problem . After 2 days trying to figure out why it wouldent pick up nothing . Coins. Nail, keys, nothing. I unplugged the cable from back of the houseing . It works now but the cable has to be really loose if I tighting the little washer on it it won't work

1st - I noticed this was your very first post shedhunter - so, Welcome Aboard! You didn't list your state (or country) in your profile. So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forums: Select Your Area.... and selecting location information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country).

2nd - I don't own one but I downloaded the Owner's Manual - the only cable you have is the one that runs from the control box to the search coil. I assume when you say "back of the houseing" you are talking about the control box. Your problem sure sounds like a ground problem. I would remove the cable, wipe down the control box and thoroughly inspect the cable connector. A little piece of sand, etc. in the plug holes or countrol box connection can cause a broken connection. Blow that puppy out as much as you can and make sure it is clean. While you have it apart - I would do the same thing to the search coil connection. Let us know how it goes.

It sounds like either the coil cable or it's connector is faulty, or the connector in the housing is bad. Something is shorting out or disconnecting under compression.

Hope you locate a different coil and hook it up. If it works, then the coil connection is bad. If it doesn't work, then it sounds like the connector in the housing is bad.

I agree with vpnavy to check for dirt in the fittings and bent wires.

Fisher F19 is a good machine.
Find the sweet spot on the connector,
and shim it up with rubber or non-metal gasket,
so it doesn't bottom out.
Or, call Fisher Research Labs, and tell them your problem,
and I'm sure they'll be glad to $ervice your machine, but will do good work.
Shouldn't be much and you'll be up and running in no time...!
Be sure to let us know how it all goes!
Good luck, and Happy Hunting to you...!
