Managed to obtain one of these elusive detectors some time back, mostly of curiosity to see if its ability/inability would be as often purported by past users.
A new 3 cell AA Li-ion battery was used to replace the missing original 8 AA battery holder.
First test was in my back garden, it soon became clear that the shortcomings of this detector as often reported could indeed have some merit.
Second test on an ocean beach turned out entirely different, enough to say it was a real pleasure to use and much more use will be made of this PI detector in the future for beach detecting, which it was made for.
