Hey!

ok, I don't know much cuz I just got one, but heres from what I read...

CZ5, 6, and 6a all same except for cz5 has speaker and NOT splashproof.

cz6 had molded pigtail coming out of case that coil wire plugged into... NOT good... replace it.

improvement from factory w no pigtail was cz6a

cz7 has no knobs... press dimple plastic .... and is on S shaft.
cz7a pro is on straight shaft with pistol grip
7's are start of digital readouts... no more needle on meter (i think)

google Mikes CZ Pages it's about 4th or 5th one on the list only one about MD and NOT Czechoslovakian motorcycles! Probably the best CZ info around in one place, AND, a tab there is for Tom Dankowski's site.

Findmall has a good CZ forum.

Good luck!

I have a CZ-7 and it does have a digital readout and no external speaker. It operates on two frequencies (5khz and 15khz) which made/makes it an oustanding detector. I used to have a 1266-X which is THE BEST relic hunting machine ever. I wish I would never have sold it.

I would assume that the CZ5, 6, etc are "lower" versions of the CZ-7. If I had it to do all over again I'd still get the CZ7 due to the dual frequencies. The new machines don't have that and they are lacking in my opinion.

I believe the CZ-6 was first, 6a an improvement, then the 5 was produced with a speaker.
Then came 7's, and finally the 3d which is current production.
CZ-20, then 21 which is current model. the 20's are submersible and use the 1280-X case.

All CZ's are dual frequency.
The 1200 series are single frequency.

**I am not an expert, and would quickly defer to anyone who knows better!

BTW, I'm looking for a 10 1/2" or larger coil for a CZ-6.
