Fernandina FL and pirates treasure
Hello fellow hunters,
There is a legend I have read about having to do with pirates burying a treasure chest at Egan's creek in Fernandina. Also, I have heard that many pirates were living at Fernandina...
Has anyone heard about this? Ivan have you heard anything?
Trying to collect as much info as I can
thanks
larry

Re: Fernandina FL and pirates treasure
humm was the money $60,000 paid by bowen for the 95 slaves (or at least some part of it) used by aury to buy off irwin and hubbards troops ( paying their back pay?) to strenghen aury's control -- very likely --- since money was paid -- now the part about $500,000 listed as stolen goods being sold at fernandina by loyld's of london (ship insurer's) --- aury was to get a 1/6th cut of good sold in fernandina as a "tax" --so there would be about $80,000 as his cut in money plus any left over money from the sale of slaves ($60,000) of course minus whatever he paid off in "back pay" debts. -- so a rather sizible amount of cash was about-- aury had been screwed over by one of his crews before so he most likely kept the money close at hand where he could keep a eye on it (thus on land --not onboard ship where the crew might sail of with it while he was on shore) -- according to reports no money was found when aury was caught and he left the island broke and never returned . -- so where's the loot?

Ivan
thanks for the info, I am trying to see about egan's creek. I recently heard an old tale about pirates burying a chest and the one pirate getting greedy and killing the other with a chain. This chain was said to be found around egan's creek, possibly near buried chest

Larry,
Egan's creek runs north to south for miles. You can take your boat up to Atlantic but it gets much smaller south of the highway. North of the highway it is bordered by marsh, private property and partly by Fort Clinch State Park. You will need some really good information to know where to look.
Hope this helps
