I dont think there are any beaches near Key largo, maybe go to Marathon and turn left at the Light where the Publix is, Sombrero Blvd, there is a beach there, also in Key west. Remember the whole Keys is a sanctuary to removing any old artifacts underwater, and there are old shipwrecks all over. But the beaches are free to search and remove stuff.

Try Harry Harris park(beach) its in Tavernier about mile marker 92 its a small beach. Admission is free during the week, weekends it's $5 for non residents. Holiday Isle is at mile marker 80 its a popular resort (nice place to get a rum runner). They have a little beach outback of the hotel you could probably hunt.

Good Luck

If you have a boat, the sand bar about 1/4 mile off Holiday Isles gets covered with partyers on warm weekends. That would be good to find lots of bottle caps, cans and pop tops. Maybe a ring or 2!

I lived in Key Largo 14 months....not a lot of places to hunt...a little city park at about 101 mile marker beside of Arbys restraunt...Pennycamp State park at about 102 mile marker...a few small beaches there....most of the older homes and post offices and old stores have been long taken for the 4 lane road that passes thu there now....old vacant lots grow over quickly with foliage.... I have not found any thing old in Key Largo....however..I wish you the best of luck...I am in Key West...if you make it here..is some good hunting...look me up if you wish..ALB

There are a couple of State Parks you can detect at. Just be sure to talk to the Park Manager first. I’ve attached the law you need to know below.

There is also a beach on the left side of the road after you pass Holiday Isle heading down the keys. (its a few miles) called ‘Ann’s Beach’ (sp).

Regards,
Metal detecting is prohibited in the Florida State Parks except for the coastal parks. At the coastal parks, metal detecting is permitted in the beach areas between the tide line and the toe of the dune. This however, is up to the park manager’s discretion so it is recommended to contact any parks of interest prior to arrival for metal detecting. I have provided an excerpt from our operations manual describing this matter. Egmont Key may be an archaeological site within the zone designated by DHR or the Park Manager. Thank you for your interest.

7) Use of Metal Detectors
a) Use of metal detectors, magnetometers or other metal detecting devices is prohibited on all state park lands, including sovereign submerged lands under lease by state parks, except for the following:
(1) Coastal parks, in a zone between the waterline and toe of the dune, as determined by the Park Manager, except at archaeological sites within the zone designated by DHR or the Park Manager.
(2) Archaeological research projects authorized by DHR.
(3) As provided for in Chapter 4, section 28, for the recovery of lost personal items.
b) Any dug hole associated with the use of a metal detector must be refilled to the contour of pre-dig conditions using the excavated material.
c) Any excavations within designated archaeological sites require permits from DHR and Bureau of Natural and Cultural Resources. Objects found or recovered under the terms of a permit issued by DHR are property of the State of Florida, with title vested by statute in DHR. Such objects are normally curated by DHR and can be made available by loan to the Division upon request.

that park is the location of a ghost town, forgot the name of it. Lost out to tavernier, I think with the railroad.
