It does look pretty surrounded... I'm not sure what exactly it is. Here's some different angles though... I'm thinking it might not be pink, but just a shot from a different angle that made it look that way?

looks like an "old hippie trailer" or the top of a boat that is able to be seen that has washed up during a hurricane, and is now swallowed up by the mangroves.....(which is what it looks like to me) On the first of the different views you can see what looks to be a door and some windows.

I'm thinkin container too. Man the skeeters are gonna eat anyone that goes to check it out, flat out eat em up.

If that's been there since Charlie, (last hurricane large enough to throw that on the beach) I wonder what's in it.

Were there any container ships out in the gulf and close enough for that toss?

be sure to take bolt cutters, cutter insect repellant and some netting. Good luck and keep us posted. If it is Jimmie Hoffa, he should be dry as dust by now, better take him a cold beer.

I would make sure it's not part of the historical places and State Park such as Cayo Pelau is, which is right next to it.

I have heard they will arrest you take you detector, boat, and whatever else you have with you. Better do some more research as it's better to be safe than sorry...

Re: Does anyone know what this pink thing is?

I was checking this out until I found out....forget it!!!

Punta Blanca’s Settlement, which occupied the south

tip of the island until the late 1950s, typifies the smaller,

self-contained fishing communities that dotted the Charlotte

Harbor shoreline in the early 20th century. Settled

by some of the same fishing families that populated

Cayo Costa, Boca Grande, and Pine Island, some 15

households lived there in the years preceding World

War II. The village included a schoolhouse and general

store. Small-boat repairs and fishing were the mainstays

    of the economy.

The aerial view taken in 1944 shows many features of

the historic settlement (Figure 3A). The dredged approach

channel (a) and boat basin (b) are prominent elements.

Note the fish-house (c) south of the entrance to the approach

channel, which was a favorite photo subject of

boaters heading down Pine Island Sound channel until it

    burned in 1995 (Figure 3B). Prop-wash of the run-boats,

as they came alongside and serviced the fish-house, created

the shoal (d). The boat building shed at (e) had a

marine ways used for launching. Other structures shown

on the photo are the school (f ), general store (g), community

    dock (h) and out-houses (i).

The settlement had one telephone, connected to Boca

Grande by an underwater cable crossing the inlet and

overhead wires strung on poles across Pelican Bay. Schoolage

children from neighboring islands were shuttled to

and from Punta Blanca until the school burned down

in the late 1950s and Lee County terminated boat

    pickup service.

Today, little remains of this pioneer fishing community

(Figure 3C). The site is overgrown with exotic vegetation,

mostly Australian pine. The wellhead pipe of an

artesian spring that once supplied drinking water rotted

out years ago. The dredged entrance channel still accommodates

deep-draft boats that venture into the basin and

seek shelter from northers during the winter season

I wouldn't get near it, if the Rattle snakes don't get you, the mosquito's the size of bats down here will get you
Oh yes, big time snakes on islands here
Including the " no seeums", a nasty little invisible flying bug as bad as the flying bats, in greater numbers
    Don't even think about it.
    also, pink roof?
Not a cargo container, likely a old squatters camp

If it is Punta Blanca, I have walked around there. There used to be old bottles, not real old ones maybe 100 years old at most. Some open areas that appeared to be burned or something. There is a lean to hut thing on the SE corner and a bunch of aluminum cans, so its not real old. I have anchored in the little bay at the S end, while there in the winter. Always wondered if any boats were in there sunk. It is part of a State Park, and no detecting. The house that was off the S end was burned by outlaw commercial fisherman.
