Took the grandson to a old site this weekend.
The ash is from eurptions from the oregon and washington coast area,3.2 million yr,s ago, give or take a couple of months,,,,I hope this will not be what Colorado looks like after Dec. 21, 1012!
Arid.

The pictures are bone, and teeth, and the general area.
Bring lots of water, oh yeah the temp was 97 f.

That looks hel-lashish. Do you know what the teeth are? Can you tell if the animals died in the ash fallout?

Area looks amazingly similar to the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. Interesting dentition on the jaw fragments. Looks like there was a lot of fragments: good portion of skull or jaw? Not enough reference to identify jaw size or tooth size, nor placement of teeth in jaw (hey, I'm not expert in this area). Have you had a paleontologist look at them yet?

Reminds me of 'Painted Desert'.. I used to do a LOT of fossil hunting up in the Kaibab and passed formations like that on the way up.

Hey thanks for the comments, this area is part of painted desert formation, part of the chinle formation. The bones are a mix of fish, and the crocodile-like Phytosaurs, these are all surfice finds.
