    could only take picture home

first time out since surgeries, & man was it great to be out!!! the matrix was to hard for our chisels, so we took pix. it's about 1" in depth & 2" long. lots of other fossils but none quite as nice as this one. wish the pic was better, but you get the idea.

    Glad you're out and about!

I don't see any chisel-marks in the image. Bring a bigger hammer next time, and get that echinoid.

Re: could only take picture home

took pix before & after trying to chisel it out. we were afraid of damaging the spec, so we chiseled away from it. we both had chisels- big ones, but couldn't even begin to crack the matrix. besides, a lot of the rock was precariously perched -ABOVE- us, so we were a little, um, timid(?) in the retrieval of it.
Harry, thanks for identifying it for me. will look in my book & learn what the differences are. It is nice to have someone to learn from.
Nature girl, it was really nice to get out again. I hope it is just a taste of what the yr has to bring.
