An aturiid, no less! Rare find in North Florida. Congratulations! You must be William's friend.

There is a lot of iron in the waters of North Florida, a product of the decomposition of plant material. Some forms of iron oxides which are secondarily deposited under water on fossils and artifacts (as on this aturiid) are goethite and lepidocrocite or hydrohematite.

I like the calcite crystals inside the shell. Common in cherty voids and shell hollows found in these parts. Should sparkle under good light. Kind of a secondary plus in a lot of our fossils, in my opinion. Beautiful specimen!
