OK, bear with me, this is my first thread start, and first time trying to get pictures to work right. Anyhow, I'm from central Iowa and I found this walking the DesMoines River. The stone appears to be siltstone, or a really fine sandstone. Part of the cherokee group, middle pensylvanian. The nodules imbedded in the matrix are a rusty color, and in the closeup, it does appear to be dots going up the length of ithe closest one, but they're heavily eroded. At first I thought seeds, but their huge for seeds, and seeded plants just started evolving. Poop maybe? Amphibian eggs? Really I'm pretty clueless, any ideas?

The other pictures are calamites, annularia found in the same area. This area at the time used to be a giant delta from a giant river that came up from Minnesota.
