Sea or lake. Same is true for all sedimentary rock. ;-)

Would you have any idea on a name or type of species? I looked at every online pics of sea and lake bed fossils, and can not match any known online.
Thank you.

Too jumbled to make out any detail for identification purposes.

May not be anything formerly organic in the piece. Just like today: most of the river and sea beds are sand, silt, mud and bits of rock. Fossils are rarities compared to rocks without them.

Hereabouts in the Catskills the majority of the rocks are older than multi-cellular fossils. They were a mountain range before the Devonian age and what was deposited since has eroded away leaving very ancient shales and sandstones.

Hello all, stopped by a Gem and fossil store this weekend. Was told that this is fossilized palm roots. He even showed me different samples of them. The only thing he could not tell me was from where they came from.
Thank you.
