Anyone have any ideas on removing the matrix from the oysters? Tried muriatic acid and it works but it also removes the luster from the pearl shell.

Nice finds, do you have an air scribe or air chisel? that is what I use to remove matrix.

Use a small brush with the acid wash and apply it only to the parts that need cleaning. You can protect the lustrous parts with blue tape or modeling clay to keep the acid from touching the parts that are shiny. Congrats that little effigy head is killer...great saves man !!

A quick check shows over 40 identified arawak villages on antigua. The main indian settlements were at indian creek, mamora bay, and mill creek. The ciboneys or (stone people) were there first and the arawaks utilized much of what was left behind by the ciboneys when they left and moved on. The caribs would carry off and raid the arawaks on antigua....I have herd the caribs would eat the arawak babies and children!!
