Out looking for exercise with the added bonus of loving rocks/fossils/minerals etc lol
I found these specimens.
The area I live in now, has the oldest fossils on the planet supposedly!
Smack dab in the center of the Michigan Basin.
Many of the fossils come out of the dirt and fall completely apart.
Too old I guess.

Any idea what these striations are ?
Dug .357 Mag for size reference.

Striation rock ….Looks like Stromatolites, an algal mat. Earliest of life forms on earth.

Stromatolites are the fossilized remains of colonies of cyanobacteria that often have a characteristic dome-shaped laminated structure. The laminations are thin mats that were constructed by the microorganisms as they trapped fine grains of calcium carbonate on their sticky filaments. A new organic mat was then constructed over the sediment, trapping another layer of sediment and producing the next lamination.
