Found this along the Muskegon river in Michigan. It stuck out like a sore thumb among the other stone, so I picked it up but I have no idea if it has any significance or not. Any and all opinions are welcome. It is of a granite-like material measuring 3.75 x 3.25 x 2 inches thick. You can see a distinct ridge with a dark line bisecting it. It almost has a sharks tooth look to it. JG

it's an interesting piece, looks more fossil than tool, but it's hard to really tell from the pics. It is a very cool rock though! HH omnicognic 8)

Just a rock. It looks that way because of the weathering pattern. The bottom is an igneous or metamorphic rock which has a white quartz zone on the top. Usually you see these very resistance veins of white quartz which has intruded this rock. The white quartz top is harder than the lower rock and is not as weathered as much.

Thanks George, your explanation seems logical and the surface has a more weathered than smooth texture.

If it was a dinosaur tooth, I wouldn't like to meet up with the critter it was attached to!

If you're interested, here's a piece of petrified wood that I found at the same location on the same day. It's about 5.5 inches long. JG

Now thats a good looking piece of petrified wood. Anytime you get good color like that- they are just great specimens.

Unfortunately, The experts have overlooked something,
The piece looks like a early hand axe, More than likely used by the
Ottawa or Chippewa tribes,They fished and lived on that river,
Close to Big Rapids. While attending Ferris State in Big Rapids,
We had field study on the banks and have found and documented
the very same type of artifact.Amoung many, many others
And then again it could just be a rock. :P

I'd say it's a Leaveright..........Lleave er right where you found......er.....

Looks like granite with a band of another tougher more dense material through it.
I saw one this weekend that resembled a big Acorn.

Although it really could be what some term as a Sex stone: "Just another F@$%&N Rock"
